Farriers

Cytek Approved Farriers

A professional and well-qualified conventional farrier is not necessarily a Cytek farrier. By this we are by no means implying that a conventional farrier cannot be an exceptional farrier, simply that in order to ensure that the simple rules of the Cytek Horseshoeing System are being followed, we recommend that a farrier participates in at least one training event, qualifying for one of our three farrier levels, Cytek Farrier, Cytek Accredited Farrier and Cytek Master Farrier. Horse owners can enter our websites to find out who is a qualified Cytek farrier in their geographical area.

Cytek qualified farriers enjoy access to an extensive support network, with access to veterinary surgeons and master farriers to help resolve complex problems. In addition to issues related to shoeing and correct hoof balance, we also aim to give farriers a deeper understanding of biomechanics and help them become even more of an asset for horse, horse owner and veterinary surgeon alike, with a high level of competence in hoof balance, farriery and biomechanics.

Levels of Certification

Training and certification levels Qualification levels:

The following training levels are developed for professional farriers with ample experience. Persons who are not farriers but who wish to train to become one, require a much more extensive training in equine anatomy, tool handling and basic aspects of shoeing as well as a predetermined number of dead leg shoeings before advancing to our Cytek Farrier level. In the UK, there is a statutory requirement for becoming a farrier.

1

Cytek farrier: a 1-day basic training course. Course aim: teach farrier basic aspects of the Cytek horseshoeing system, with main focus on hoof preparation and shoe fitting. After shoeing 5 horses under supervision, the farrier qualifies for the Cytek Farrier level.".

2

Cytek Accredited Farrier: This is a 5-day workshop, where participants dissect a horse leg, analyze basic aspects of equine biomechanics and basic pathology. Candidates study how to manage complex orthopedic conditions such as for instance, navicular syndrome, tendinitis and acute laminitis/founder.

3
